Information for Geography Majors

The Bachelor of Arts in Geography program offers a variety of courses in all aspects of both physical and human geography. The program consists of 11 courses(38 hours total), twenty of which are core courses required of all majors. Students may choose any four elective geography courses for their eighteen remaining credits. The major offers applied and techniques concentrations for students, which is stressed through coursework, advising, and through the core course structure for the major.

Human Geography courses focus on the social and spatial effects of population growth, including issues such as the historical evolution of cities in urban form and function, land-use changes and conflicts, economic restructuring, the growth and decline of inner-cities and urban racial and ethnic relations within a local, regional and global context

Physical Geography courses focus on major environmental systems including the hydrosphere, atmosphere, pedosphere, and biosphere. Particular emphasis is placed on human modification of the natural environment and the global interconnections of the major Earth systems.
