Module 3: Low Energy Siliciclastic Barrier-Island System

This is the third of the five virtual field trip modules on low energy siliciclastic barrier island system along the Florida Gulf of Mexico coast. This virtual field trip compares with virtual trip #2 along the high-energy Florida Atlantic coast. This virtual field trip makes several stops in various sub-environments along the very young barrier islands in southwest Florida (near the mouth of Tampa Bay). The sub-environments include beach and nearshore, back-beach, dunes, overwash platform in the barrier-island interior, mangrove and marsh swamp in the barrier-island interior and along the back-barrier bay, and intertidal zone of the back-barrier bay.
